I think it's different for different men. People have different pain tolerances.

I knew a guy who had a vasectomy and went out and mowed his huge yard on a riding lawnmower the next day. I know a different guy who had a vasectomy and went back to work as a logger either the same day or the next day. (They're not supposed to do that though)

I'm thinking some men are just wussies. But everyone's pain tolerance is different.

My dad had it done after my sister was born(33yrs ago). He said he was still a little sore the next day, but it was nothing an ice pact and Tylenol couldn't take care of.

He also said he would never have wanted Mom get her tubes tied instead of him getting a vasectomy, since it is a much more evasive procedure.

My best friend had her tubes tied 14yrs ago. She was in pain for days afterwards. They puff up the abdomen(with air/some sort of gas, can't remember)so it's easier to do the procedure. There are only two small incisions for the operation, which is much better then how it used to be.

I also think other than pain tolerances that it has a lot to do with how good the doctor is that's doing the procedure. Some can be very sloppy at any operation.

I had my tubes done eons ago and didn't feel any pain whatsoever. They let me go that same day. I guess it's always different with different people.

I know when I had my hysterectomy done before I went in I heard many conflicting stories on the pain levels. After I had the procedure it hurt like a b**** and my tolerance levels a supposed to be very high.

It's the gas and not the actual surgery that makes it hurt so bad so I asked my Obstetrician/ Gynecologist why she hadn't brought meds like Gas X or Oval into the hospital and have some mercy on her patients and she told me she had fought with the pharmaceutical companies for years to do just that and for some policy reason could never get them in there.

She then told me if people brought their own then they had her blessings on taking them like candy after surgery just to get rid of the gas.

It never occurred to me that Gas-X might work like that.

if you knew for a fact that you didn't wanna have anymore kids in the future, would you consider getting a vasectomy?

my wife has been bugging the s*** out of me to have this operation done, but i can't seem to bring myself to do it! i dunno why, i'm just totally against having any surgical procedures non-life threatening done in general, and i'm not too thrilled about having things cut-out or tied off down there! i know it's a simple procedure and all, i just prefer leaving things left in tact, and operating the way they were meant to be! in my own close-minded head, i can't justify doing this whatsoever.

we got in a bit of an argument over it, and i told her i'd rather never have sex again, then have a vasectomy. of course this caused more problems!

i was just wondering what other males thoughts on the subject were? would you do it?

My husband was did this for us both. Knowing that a woman's operation is far ore life threatening and evasive he did it. It was a such a small procedure for him he was able to get back to work the same day. He experienced only mild pain which he said was mostly just the rubbing of his underpants against the two tiny stitches on either side of his scrotum.

My sisters husband did the same last year, but his pain level was different and he took one day off work and a bag of cold peas. LOL

But the end result of it all... more sex, and no worry, and no birth control messes like condoms etc.

Why aren't more people responding to this?! I've been trying to pressure my husband into having a vasectomy and he says a guy at work told him it's too painful. I'm allergic to condoms and birth control does not agree with me. If he doesn't want a house full of kids or a crazy fat wife who bleeds all the time this seems like the only option to me. But he sees it differently somehow.

I had it done 26 years ago and it was done in an outpatient facility. It was uncomfortable at the most and I was lit up for just a second when he cauterized the tubes, but just for a second. I just have to tell you this, my enjoyment for sex has risen to the Nth degree because I have nothing holding me back such as getting her pregnant. Believe it or not, there's always that notion somewhere in your head that always puts a damper on your performance. If your Husband doesn't want to get one, he really isn't committed to you. Why is some Guy's advice at work more important that your wishes? Let him know that his pleasure will increase.

i haven't it done, probably won't, or maybe will someday. my luck, little twilite will naturally fall off. that " home improvement " was the better one, i enjoyed watching. it is one of the best situation comedy in the last 15 years. i wish " roseanne " had did this situation on her show. can image darlee going after dan like she with d.j. when he spend a long time in the bathroom. that really moaning episode, get it? if i was marry, if my wife and i agree on it, i probably divorce by my wife. if i had the thing done, aw, my poor thing! i don't drive now, but after doing it, i would have more leg room to drive. if i had to do it, i would to do it. my doctor told me it was safety, i would ask for a bullet to bite down on, and then said to him, " nip, nip!! I've had two c- section babies after rough pregnancies and even rougher attempts at births. I was not going under the knife again so quickly. We hated condoms and I did not like other forms of birth control. It was his choice to have a vasectomy, but it was also my choice to not want to get pregnant again... and he knew that. His choice was no sex or the knife. He chose the knife. It was an in and out procedure with only a short recovery time. Now he gets "Free" sex as someone else said and we're all good.
So, if you think about what your wife goes through to have children, getting a snip shouldn't be a hardship.

LOL!

I had it done many years ago, and it wasn't anywhere near as bad as people let on. If I had to do it over again I would.

Sometime the issue of child support can weigh in the decision to get more reliable birth control. Here is one example of how the non-custodial parent can make ends meet while making child support payments.
