Making a terminal?

I was wondering if anyone could give me the basics of making a simple terminal (basically a glorified word processing machine) that lets you type, save documents, and delete documents. (Very similar to Fallout 3 and New Vegas.) If anyone can point me in the right direction, I will award them with kind words of gratitude.

Fallout is a video game. Typing, saving, and deleting documents are tasks associated with a computer word processing program.

You may want to first clarify with yourself what it is exactly that you want before asking for help.

I do know what I want. Fallout's terminals are very similar if not identical in function and style to 70s data terminals. Look up Datapoint 3300 for one example, if needed.
