Amazing!

I think a lot of people are going to be very shocked when these big things get rolled out next year and the healthcare system is changed for ever.

I for one am very sad over this as I am in this profession.

One one hand I am so grateful my services are "free" via tax dollars but what good is it when you can't see a doctor so you get just as sick as the people who can't afford to go.

People think because its a tax paid system here its wonderful. It is not. When doctors are paid by province or in your case if ever paid just by state, the smaller states are going to have this problem as well as doctors go of course where the money is.

In my country its not just specialists. All doctors, including family, are paid by the provincial government of where they reside and practice. Some areas have 5,000-10,000 people who have no family doctor! The waiting list for one is 5+ years long in some areas.

I typically have to go to my family doctor two times a month, sometimes just once but still, it takes me about 2 hours each way just to go to a doctor, plus the wait time in the room. I have waited in some cases two years for a specialist!

So sometimes when people complain about a 20 minute or 40 minute wait for the doctor, they have no idea just how bad it can be.

I had no idea that it could be so bad!

When you were talking about waiting to see a GP I thought you meant 2 - 3 days. I've never heard of waiting lists to register with a GP surgery here, though there are usually quite a few in built up areas.

You make very good points. I agree with you 100%

There are a lot of people who are going to argue your full of it, even though you live there. I have heard over the last few years as we have argued over obamacare here people trying to use canada as a example.

I think what we have here in our case is people are willing to accept a crumb of something as long as it is free. And crumbs it shall be.

I think what it comes down to, many in America envy that our system is tax paid so we do not have to cough up say 80$ to see a doctor or 1,000$ for a night in hospital so when we here hear of someone sick, we are like just go to a doctor but do not grasp it costs money. But you guys might say to us, just go to a doctor and we say but there are none to go to. So we envy you guys can get in so quick or have GP that take new patients.

The grass is always greener as they say.

But again, in big areas in Canada this not a problem because they pay doctors top dollar, its only really in smaller areas this is a problem and I am in a small area so its a huge problem here.

I have the privialge of living in south flordia and we have a lot of people who come here for the summer. I work in healthcare and I got my fist taste of dealing with someone in healthcare in canada about a couple of months ago. I needed to have a patients specimen sent to me because they had come down here, second home, and they had cancer and wanted to have some test done here. Those people acted as if I was crazy when I mentioned patient care as a urgency. It took me 3 weeks to obtain that specimen of course at our cost. I wasnt impressed. I do like a lot about canada though. my son in laws family is from there. Most people Ive met form canada have been decent and nice people.

I have something that others in the USA might have interest in. You can plug your income in and find out if you will be getting a subsidy from the gov or not to help pay your ins. It will give you an idea of what your cost are going to be once this is implimented.

To use it properly you must put that your employer does not offer ins. In 2014 that could be a fact as many will choose the penalty in order to offset thier cost of providing ins for thier employees.
