May we please continue this discussion?

Survival of the fittest and natural selection. If there ever was a one eyed species, then for reasons you have alrady pointed out, it probably didnt get very far. Now it has been removed from the gene pool for being useless.

The fact that we can work out it will not be much use, explains why there arnt any today.

I would like us to consider the concept of the sniper rifle viewfinder. It incorporates the principle of one eyed vision. Depth perception is lacking, but they say that the ability to pinpoint a specific area of a target is much easier with the viewfinder, as it allows the user to focus so intensely on a single spot.

Using this analogy, how could we apply it to a living species?

Not true. Look at the optical perception of a raptor. It has the ability to super impose its two eyes to grant it a telescoping lens, thus allowing it to see prey at over 2.5 times the normal distance and up to 8 times what a human will see. They also have a higher density of color sensing rods in their eyes and are quadrachromatic as opposed to humans being only trichromatic. Nature has perfected things via natural selection in ways we can hardly imagine. The only way to use and apply this to enhance a species would be to install it into a human via genetic manipulation... which I am sure is already underway at some military genetic manipulation lab to make super soldiers for UAC

The major benefit of having only one eye is saving money on sunglasses as only one lens is required.

Your point is well taken. How then shall we describe the pros and cons of one eyed vision?

Let's describe them this way.

There is no advantage to one eyed vision, which is why there are no species with only one eye.

What about the mythical giant in Ulysses? Every author wishes to create a meaning in the characters and entities he writes about. What's the idea behind such a tall creature, who should ordinarily have two eyes to see.

It is so big that with binocular vision, it could see a lot from its viewpoint.

Mythical.
None exist in real life.

having gone from 2 to 1.
2 is better.
binoculars would be silly on a rifle because you need to line up 2 points.

Recent research has lead me to conclude that the subject of the thread should be properly addressed as the advantages of monocular vision. I've spoken with others and one claims that it's easier to detect a threat with one eye, than it is with two. Let's expand on this idea.

Without depth perception, what would be the logic of only having one eye to perceive danger?
