Not just the Emperor. Japan wanted an armistice at best. We wanted total surrender. Again, just like Germany and Italy. The only reason the Emperor got to keep his job is because MacArthur decided it would be best, AFTER Japan totally surrendered. Note also it wasn't MacArthur's decision to drop the bomb.

Victorious is a relative term, no-one really is victorious both sides suffer massive injuries etc. The key is to learn from it & when we look at what going on in the world now I do not think that anyone has really learned from the past!
