Erm...yes really. The bombs were dropped because they would not hand over the emperor. Yet in the end they spared his life anyway, so all those people, including several American soldiers in POW in Hiroshima died for nothing.


Not just the Emperor. Japan wanted an armistice at best. We wanted total surrender. Again, just like Germany and Italy. The only reason the Emperor got to keep his job is because MacArthur decided it would be best, AFTER Japan totally surrendered. Note also it wasn't MacArthur's decision to drop the bomb.

Well not only. Sometimes it's written by the losers, and sometimes it's written by 3rd parties. Actually, it's very strange you'd say that about this war in particular, because every conceivable side has written about it.

Victorious is a relative term, no-one really is victorious both sides suffer massive injuries etc. The key is to learn from it & when we look at what going on in the world now I do not think that anyone has really learned from the past! We still have loonies who see it as there 'right" to do horrific acts & until those people stop countries will respond to protect themselves
