I believed it! - Albeit, with this look>>> on my face.
Does that answer your question?

Thank you for proving my point

I didn't want to say that 'Americans wouldn't understand' as that sounds derogatory, but with news like this that wouldn't exactly be reported over there anyway, it's harder to detect the satire (especially in writing). Same goes for us and your news- though things like The Daily Show are helpful in translating.

So... this is not anything that's actually occurring?

Putting non-news in the news forum: d*** move. At least put some kind of disclaimer at the bottom of the post or something.

The more concerning thing is that Karen Mathews seems exactly the sort who would do that, and Jeremy Kyle the type who would allow someone like her onto his show.

I'm guessing Offcom/the courts wouldn't allow it, but this could almost happen.

This is what makes for good satire. The element of plausibility.

I agree with JMO.... Karen Matthews and Jeremy Kyle could be made for each other, and despite public repugnance at what she did, to get her on the show would undoubtedly be a daytime TV ratings coup. Would people watch it..? You bet they would.

Looking through some of the comments on this thread, it's quite clear the "plausibility" bait has been taken by some. Hey.... there's no shame in it. Smile...!!

Is this a news item...? Yes, I think so. The Karen Matthews story is a bona fide current news item, it's just that the OP has chosen to pitch the story in a satirical way.

It seems that several individuals didn't pick up that it was a spoof and have then got miffed once they realised they've been had. This, I would imagine, has made it all the more enjoyable to the OP.
