I asked that too. I do see that the bill would allow discrimination by the employer based on religious dogma and prevent BC from being offered. I'm still also quite sure that they said nothing about offering viagra!

Well, it becomes religious in the matter of viagra if the man is not married as we all know having premarital sex is a sin.

I think its a violation of privacy for an employer to know what medications you are taking. That is none of their business.

I don't see how they can even get away with this. In Missouri, an employer can't even ask if you're married, have children, or what religion you belong to, let alone ask about birth control. A prospective employee can simply not answer since it is illegal to ask such personal questions.

As I mentioned earlier, the blog/editorial-style article linked in the OP is flat-out wrong. Nothing in this bill has anything to do with the employer knowing anything about the employee's medical records.

It allows employees to exclude non-necessary birth control from covered medicines in an insurance plan. It doesn't force employees to justify birth control to their employer.

Oh, sorry. I didn't bother reading all the posts. After a page or two I get bored.

Don't places like planner parenthood give out free birth control, or for a really low cost?

Once again, this is Missouri. Planned Parenthood is not readily available to most of the poor rural citizens of this state. Anyone in the Southern Half of the state would have to drive several hours once a month to obtain that free birth control. Further, their website says to contact your local center about pricing for birth control, so I'm guessing it is not necessarily free there.

The article was a bunch of bulls***. It directly quotes the bill and then proceeds to horrendously misinterpret the quoted passage.

What issues exactly?

It allows employers to not provide standard covered medicine based on their religious persuasion or belief.

Or it recognizes that birth control, like surgery can be necessary or elective. They are wanting to not cover the elective birth control, similar to how they would not cover an elective surgery.

It's based on religious doctrine no doubt or sheer greed- either way it really does not make any sense- unless you are willing for our society to cough up monies for caring for many more single parent families taxing our strained system when it can be prevented for pennies?

And why this and not viagra? I mean that becomes elective too when it's not just for pro-creation.

Okay, I know I'm just jumping in here and with random stuff... But why does Planned Parenthood get so many protestors? Is it because they offer condoms and BC for free and stuff? I've seen just as much as religious protestors there as an Abortion clinic.

I didn't know Planned Parenthood provided abortions, at least the one in TN doesn't.

In 2010 they performed about 330,000.

Well, I guess it was just TN that said they didn't do abortions.
