Yeah you're right. I was talking about the plastic applicator part, not the actual thing, but I re-measured the only one I have in the house (cardboard applicator though) and it's almost 3/4 of an inch.

I've forgotten why we're talking about this. Was it because an inch diameter was supposedly painful?
