It's not a mistake because it's too convenient. Fox often makes 'mistakes' at the expense of politicians they don't like and rarely to never about ones they do like. And jokingly equating Romney to Obama is just the sort of dig they'd take at him.

I still think its just an error and that you're reading many too much into it. Sure these shows have editors and directors trying to catch stuff, but these shows have to do all that within a single 24 hour period. Go to IMDB and look up any movie there; most of them have a long list of goofs and gaffs and these were in production for months with several editors and screen testers.
