People can avoid poverty with systematic investment. Some of my relatives have money. I think that without exception, they came by wealth by systematic investment in mutual funds. My grandmother told me about one of her uncles who began investing in mutual funds during the depression when he worked as an air-conditioning mechanic at the Brooklyn Navy Yard. He retired 40 years later, and he spent the rest of his life on a golf course especially at the nineteenth hole.
