In a word, hyper-cynical. It's about a Democrat primary campaign. They talk down the Republicans to each other and then proceed to wallow in the muck. Oh Clooney gets his idealistic leftist jabs in there, but then the movie proceeds to show them as corrupt as they were calling the Republicans ("they got it together, down and dirty" )--yeah, that's the linguini-spined Republicans alright.

It's a pretty gloomy view, and given that it's about the Democrats, what'd you expect. The one part they really get right is about religion at the very beginning--delivered by Gosling the reiterated immediately by Clooney.

Clooney produced, directed and stars in it. The only motive I can figure for him is he's trying to give the Dems a kick in the pants--front and back. See what you think.

The moment I saw the Clooney was in it I knew I didn't want to see it.

your description of it sounds just like I expected.

Yeah, but after thinking about it, I think he's taking a different tack that what the left in Hollywood usually employes. It shows enthusiastic popular support (paid for on screen just as in real life ) for the socialist class warfare agenda. But then it shows the corruption of the leadership undermining The Cause (awwwww).

What Clooney and his ilk (except for those that bail) don't get, is that corruption is requisite for socialism.

He may have shot himself in the foot with this, since it either leads people to realize this obvious point and just walk away, or that their buckling down and eliminating corruption would then eliminate the socialism. It's a win-win situation.

I like it...
