On what would you base such a strange assumption?

I don't recall ever posting my beliefs on this board...nor are they relevent to this discussion.

I'm a spectacular judge of character.. or the lack thereof.

I think that tino and pcp are interpreting the term "freedom of religion" differently...

No...we are interpreting the First Amendment differently.
Some seem to believe that the government grants us certain rights.

I believe that I was born with those rights and the First Amendment forbids my government infringing upon my rights.

If you were born in Somalia would you have those rights?

ALL people have basic human rights.
Some unfortunates have those rights violated...individuals, groups, religions, and governments have all oppressed the rights of others.

The First Amendment restricts the power and authority granted to the American Congress and the nature of the laws they are allowed to write is limited.

It was a yes or no question.

Go back...read it again.

I've read it a bunch, and the text hasn't changed one iota.

Seems pretty straightforward to me.

Yes, but they'd be violated more frequently.

PCP is right, the amendment doesn't grant these rights, as there is no wording that explicity states such, but, rather, the wording used assumes that they are already inherently existent for each and every person. The amendment simply says that these rights cannot be taken away by any law passed by the government.

True, but if I say that I will never take no stance whatever regarding the baseball cap you have in your avatar, does that not also mean that I've given you the right to do with it whatever you like?

No because it assumes that I do not already have the right unless granted by you.

What, if anything, should be excluded?

Religion, press, assembly?

None of the above. You kill any part of the 1st Amendment, you kill freedom itself
