Does anyone else find this odd, or is it just me?

I don't know why but I can't think of a dog and then call it something like Steve, it just sounds bizarre for some reason.

The closest I have come to calling a pet by a human name is my current cat Tod. He's named after Tod from "Fox and the Hound" (he's a big orange tabby with big ears. )

It does sound a bit odd when pets have human names though. But just as odd, I guess, when someone gives their pet a really off the wall name.

some dogs can pull off a human name, just like how some girls can pull off having short hair and still look hot.

I can't put my finger on what makes a human name sound okay to me for a dog, but there are some that do and some that don't. You mentioned "Steve," and I agree, I don't think I could call a dog Steve. But at the same time, I don't see anything weird about calling a dog "Jake." I don't know what the difference is between the two names that makes them different in that way.

My parents Jack Russell is called Jake. It seems my parents liked giving them human names. Two others were called Frasier and Rosie. Another was called Buddy.

My Mom's lab/chow mix is named Jake. The closest I came to naming one of mine a human name is Rambo. I named my puppy that in jest 'cause he was the runt of the litter. Thought he might need an ego boost.

I always thought it'd be funny to call a dog something totally random like "Reality." What's funny about that? Imagine when it runs off and you go around the neighborhood yelling its name.

I've tried that...it leads to some very surreal memories. I don't think I've ever seen so many buttless chaps on rodeo clowns.

I'm pretty sure the only "human" name I've given a dog was Sadie...and again it's one of those names that seems okay for a dog.

What's stranger is when you come across a person with a name that sounds like a dog's name...like Princess or Precious.

My dog has a human name. We were going to name him Radar, but then after a bit we changed it to Angus and now we call him Gus. I really can't imagine any other name for him. Well toher than variations like Gustov, Gustopher, Gdogg, Gussafina, Gustavious, Gussy, and Mr. Gus.
