Didn't we discuss this a few months ago? I think it's something that comes up from time to time and never passes. I think it's a ridiculous idea.
Makes me glad I'm not getting another car if it does pass.

If you don't get another car Plebi, don't you think they'll introduce a Footpath Tax?,pavement I think you call it.
They can then calculate how far it is from your front door to the bus stop, where you get off the bus and how far it is to where you work, double all that distance for the return trip and tax you accordingly .

I can just imagine how much more it would cost for a taxi if this were to go though.

Would've thought that the only reasonable tax on drivers would be through the fuel they use. Those who do a lot of driving, therefore using more fuel, end up paying more tax as a result. Chose not to drive, don't get taxed.

I realise fuel is already taxed, but it's the only thing that I can think of that reflects the usage of the individual driver in a fair manner.

No, because many cars are much better fuel efficient. One could drive a lot less, but be taxed just as much if he/she is driving a Ford pickup over, say, a Pruis.

Ah ok, I didn't understand at first, but see what you mean. Surely though, you make your choice on which vehicle you buy to use? It's then down to manufacturers to become as fuel efficient as possible

It appears the world over,we are now being taxed on the most ridiculous things,I wonder have they thought about Air Space Tax??they can tax us on what size ,height ,length and width we are as to how much Air Space we take up

I do see your point, though some people (like me) quite enjoy using public transport even if it does take a little longer, to be honest the journeys I go on they probably take about the same time as driving there and if I go longer distance than just around my city it's actually quicker on the train.

Get yourselves some decent public transport heathens.

I enjoy using it, because I can read, and people watch on the trains.. but I'm not spending 10 hours a day commuting when I work on the weekends..

And many places in the US are simply not densely populated enough to warrant the expense of public transport. It makes no sense to run a bus route if only 10 or 15 people will use it each day.

I can get to work 10 minutes by car..half hour or longer on the bus. Our city bus system is obsessed with transfer points for some reason.

That's exactly my problem.. On weekdays, I can take one train to one bus to get to and from work, and it'll take me between 90 minutes and 2 hours..

On the weekends, the trains don't run late enough, and don't start running early enough, so I would have to take 7 different buses with 6 transfer points..

It's not gonna happen.

Fact is mileage is easily faked anyway. Good luck to the government on that one lol.
