It can, has, and is working for many people. Guess it's more of a question of if it's really for you or not; or if you have the time.
Personally, I feel, once you have cleared all of the bulls*** away, and have establihed that your person of interest is trustworthy, and sincere...that it is perhaps, one of the best ways to get to know someone. Especially a guy.

I would agree with that. Communication is super important.
Often the reason people knock meeting people off the net is because you "don't really know who they are" or "they always end up not working." Isn't that the same as relationships in which you originally met elsewhere, though? Most relationships don't work out...and meeting someone at a bar or the grocery store or something does not mean you instantly can trust that they are telling you everything about themselves.
I think as long as you are smart about it, how you meet is pretty irrelevant. It's how you spend your time once you're dating or in a relationship that will determine how successful it is.
