There was this woman around here that had one of the tires stolen off her car while it sat in a parking garage. The thief took the tire right off the car, but instead of just leaving it as is, or putting it up on cinderblocks, he put a spare donut tire on for her, tightened the lugnuts down and everything.

So, he stole from her, but at least he was considerate enough not to leave her screwed. He didn't even make her take the time to put the spare on herself. What a nice guy.

A thief is a thief, to do that or not.

Isn't it more likely that he just stole the spare tire?

Seems like a lot of work when he could have just stolen the spare tire.

No, because donuts are not like regular tires. you can tell the difference easily.

Those little donut spares only last like 50 miles or something though.

Naw they last longer than that If you stay below 45 you can make them last And yes I know from personal experience.

I was too scared to ever test it. My garage boys gave me a very stern lecture about stretching tires too far.

Why would you use a spare tire which doesn't last properly? Is that even legal?

yes it is legal. They come with all new cars. It is cheaper than a 'real' tire. You are only supposed to drive on them long enough to get somewhere to get the tire replaced/fixed. And yes they do work as long as you stay under 55 MPH.

It's only meant to last you to get to a shop to get it replaced so you're not stranded on the road.
