BTW guys i neeeed to point this out, i dont "give her" chocolate, she sneaks into my stuff and eats it on her own. and no i'm not a slob who leaves random chocolate and candy around the house, but if i just bought a chocolate bar and set it on the counter for 5 mins, she will jump up and tear through the paper, and start eating it.
to clarify once more, i do NOT intentionally feed my cat chocolate.
I have a dog who will eat ANYTHING. As such it is my responsibility to keep anything away from her reach - just like a child - that could harm her.
If your cat got sick, you will feel awfully bad that you left a chocolate bar unattended that she could get to, especially since you know she will 'steal' it.
The info below is similar to many quotes you will find from vets in response to the question of chocolate and pets:
Quote:
The problem is that cats and dogs like the taste of chocolate and will try to eat it-- so it's the pet owner's job to keep them away from it. If your cat accidentally had a small taste of chocolate sometime in the past and seemed to come out of it okay, it isn't the end of the world. One lick of ice cream won't hurt it, but an ounce of chocolate is definitely toxic to a 10-pound cat, and enough to cause the above symptoms. Don't ever feed chocolate to a cat!
