This article raises an interesting question.....

https://www.news.com.au/story/0,10117,17819566-23109,00.html

Why does Saddam get this kind of trial, and those locked up at Guantanamo Bay face military
tribunals...... Wouldn't Saddam as a belligerent military leader face a military tribunal too?
How does this work, and who decides?

It's a show trial.
As for the judge quiting he is scared of being killed by evil pro-saddam terrorists.

I can't imagine how Saddam Hussein could possibly get a fair trail in Iraq.

Sounds about right, the leader of the Bali Bombers got 15 months for killing 80
odd people, then they let the bastard out early to celebrate some Indonesian
holiday. Schapelle Corby, not Indonesian, got 20 years for smuggling 9 kg of
grass. The world is a s***ty place full of f***wits
