I LOVED "The River King" by Alice Hoffman. Also enjoyed "Eat, Pray, Love" soon to be made into a movie! Great Book!!!

Another friend of mine recommended a great book called "Learning How to Breathe", I didn't catch the author, but you can Google it. It's about a very healthy, vibrant young woman who experiences a life-altering accident where she is literally crushed, and how she comes back from it. Haven't read it myself yet, but she said it was GREAT summer reading!
