We have three Kittehs, 2 outside that wandered up we spayed them and got them their shots, and one inside kitteh.

The inside kitteh is predisposed to Yak if you give her very much food, so I give teeny little handfuls several times a day.

The oustside kittehs get about 3/4 cup each twice a day.

All the books I've read say having food down all the time is a no-no.

I've always done it. Never had overly fat cats. Mine isn't overly fat. I don't see what's wrong with it. Left food down all the time for my dog as he only ate when hungry.

I had to quit when my fatass Beagle (Buddy) was found fast asleep with his head inside a 40lb sack of Purina.

I had a hamster who escaped and I found him face down buried up to the waist in his food tub, he must have though he was in hamster heaven

fat cats are so cute but its sooo bad for the cat. i can't see why a cat that wouldnt loose weight if you cut her food down. do you give her food by eye? try measuring exactly what is recomended on the back of the bag. if she likes to eat twice split it up

Cats, like other carnivores, need a low Carbohydrate/high protein diet. If you ever see cats in the wild, you will see their diets consist of rodents and birds, both meat sources. If you ever look at the labels of most cat food, you will notice that more than 80% of the food is made up of grains. Cats are carnivores, they cannot digest grain like we can, and so it directly leads to obesity, insulin resistance, diabetes, and kidney problems. A good high protein low fat, low carbohydrate food would be Evo Weight Management for cat. It is completely grain free and will help your cat want to eat less, and give him/her more energy. Here is the webpage https://www.evopet.com/products/default.asp?id=1703

Also, you can get some of those freeze dried chicken or turkey treats from the pet store, and get your cat to run laps around your house. Increase the speed and distance each time. The store I used to work at had a HUGE cat, we put her on Evo weight management and did this, and she lost 20 pounds in 4 months. The cat was 30 pounds before we started!
