During the Miss USA 2010 competition last night, judge Oscar Nunez asked first runner up Miss Oklahoma USA, Morgan Elizabeth Woolard, if she supports Arizona immigration bill SB 1070.

"I?m a huge believer in states' rights. I think that's what's so wonderful about America," Woolard said. "So I think it's perfectly fine for Arizona to create that law." She also added that she is against racial profiling.

Nunez was booed by the crowd as he posed the question. Fox News would later ask if Nunez?s question was an effort to sabotage Woolard.

Miss California Carrie Prejean has subsequently endured intense criticism for her beliefs and was stripped of the Miss California USA crown for alleged breaches of contract. Homosexual pageant judge Perez Hilton called her a "dumb b****" and stated that she had lost her crown because she did not give a politically correct answer to the question.

So to be Miss USA you have to forget your beliefs and what you really think and talk like some kind of PC robot.

Shocking.

The pageants have never been about speaking your mind. It's about delivering non-controversial answers that can be digested by the majority of Americans without indigestion. It's only been in recent pageant history that contestants have been asked more than softball questions. I think this is in response to the criticism of 'world peace' type answers.

Even with all that, it's not like they (judges, pageant owners etc) want to hear what you think. They want to hear you give an answer that will win you the crown. That answer is rarely, if ever, the bald truth as a contestant sees it. It's a watered down answer meant for mass consumption.

Agree, most posters to have the gist of 'what it is'!
Anyone that is subject to be in the media spotlight a lot
(no matter what their chosen career path) has a right to express their opinion like everyone else, sure .....
but - - - not without consequnces!

Why should beauty pageant contestants be any different from any other celebrity -- or even Joe Schmoe off the street --
we can all speak our minds, whenever we choose to -- there is no law against it unless it is construed as a threat -- --- but there will always be someone, somewhere who has the power to cause you distress over the opinion you stated. Thus, speaking one's own mind is subject to the whims of society and the powerbreakers (or majority) -- consequences often can and do occur -- cause and effect so to speak. uh huh, yeah. That's how it is.
