Go sort this out as best as you can! I don't want it just to end like that just because of a loose mouth by a friend and a person understandably but foolishly acting just to protect his ego.

just my opinion but if he breaks up with you for something as petty and stupid as that, then you're better off without him.

Obviously he doesn't "love" you if he wasn't willing to try and figure things out.

Maybe he just wasn't that into you.

It sounds like your boyfriend has an overly romanticized idea of love and marriage. You are both too young to get married. A successful partnership requires that egos be set aside sometimes in order to make things work.

If you still want him as a boyfriend then you need to be straight up with him. Tell him you love him, aren't ready for marriage, down the line you might be but not to rush things. You both have a lot ahead of you and don't know where life will take you.

My bet is that his offer of marriage was not based solely on his notions of romantic love. Perhaps insecurity, unsurety or even fear played a role. He wouldn't be the first and certainly won't be the last to be motivated by any or all of those things.

Either way, this isn't the end of the world. If he doesn't respond to discussion then you know you are better off and will find someone else that is better suited to you and your long term goals for your life.
