Why do they insist on calling it a 'second amendment protest' when they're protesting about pending healthcare legislation, congress and the Obama administration?

I might arrange a 'human rights protest' and instead protest about something totally unrelated.

Because that way people like golfwidow can claim that they're not Tea Baggers.

My thread title is from the daily Kos, which is where I got the quote.. And there's no corrections here, sadly for you, because this is about perceptions and opinions, not about your little nit picky facts and figures..

And, you'll notice that I also said that I pulled a blog piece because both the major outlets would have been far to partisan to be realistic, so I thought an opinion piece would be fairer, because it's presented as an OPINION piece.

Hate to have to "correct" you... but you needed it.

Now... You want to answer the question or not?

I think that the answer is going to be that you don't want to answer.. because you know how it would have been perceived if it was a bunch of non-white people doing it.

I post based on facts, and posting the links to different news outlets gives readers several options within which to form an opinion. You stand corrected.

As to your original question, it already occurred back in 2000. Link

Difference between the two, the Second Amendment marchers carried their guns because they are in favor of the Second Amendment. The Black Panthers carried guns because its legal.

Both groups used it as a form of intimidation.

I don't care if you're green and have purple hair, if its legal to carry a gun during a march/demonstration, then its legal.

How well, in your opinion, would that have gone if they protesters were all Hispanics, or Blacks?

Aside from the obvious, better fashion sense of course.

Hispanic, might have gone over ok, here in NM depending in what city it was, and just which "flavor" of Hispanic was protesting. But I do think if there were an predominately black group it may not have gone over as well. Even if they all behaved themselves in the same peaceful manner there would be more talk. If they were Arabic or Muslim it would have been down right ugly.

I'd love to say I live in a happy place where all the different ethnicities get along and co-exist and no one makes racial slurs and treats every group with tolerance and respect. But no, you hear "people" say stuff about black people, muslims and the mexicans, but that is always qualified from actual mexico, not the "spanish" people and sometimes the Native Americans, but again tribe matters.

I suppose there is someone out there that has issues with someone else, but as far as I hear those are the groups I hear the most about as far as snide remarks and tasteless jokes and people say when they think no on is listening, or worse think everyone agrees with them. Funny thing about people watching and sitting quietly out of the way, others tend to ignore you.

Though, to be honest these people in the video strike me as the "crazy people" OMG, all of them seem loony in the extreme to the average people that you meet around town and would say that are your average New Mexican.

I like how they can't seem to decide whether Obama is Socialist or Fascist.

Wait there is a difference? They are both "bad" what does it matter?

Yes. I agree with you. That video amused me quite a bit.

I like the guy with the "flag" shirt.

Doesn't he realize that wearing a shirt like that, with a gut like that would be considered desecration?

From the Daily Kos..

"Imagine that hundreds of black protesters were to descend upon Washington DC . . . armed with AK-47s, assorted handguns, and ammunition. And imagine that some of these protesters ?the black protesters ? spoke of the need for political revolution, and possibly even armed conflict in the event that laws they didn?t like were enforced by the government? Would these protester ? these black protesters with guns ? be seen as brave defenders of the Second Amendment, or would they be viewed by most whites as a danger to the republic? "

Discuss..

I would guess the 'older' generation of whites would crap their pants if they saw a bunch of black/hispanic/other type protesters marching on DC like that.

good post Boxer... perspective is an amazing thing, makes you think

Also, the fact that our "conservatives" on this board aren't chiming in to say that it's bulls*** should point out it's veracity.

Because they just love to call a spade a spade, and they love to point out liberal errors.. yet they're remaining oddly silent on this issue..

Hmmmm..

I wasn't disputing you - not much that happens in America surprises me to be honest. It's just that we, or at least, I, didn't hear about it... In Australia, it wouldn't matter who you were, marching into the state capital with guns would almost certainly lead to you being shot... I am stunned, not disbelieving...

To our credit as Americans, they are a fringe group. Of course they'll tell you that they represent the "core" of American values, but about the only thing that the core of the American people agree on is that we're in for some tough times financially, until our government gets back on track..

The rest of the stuff that they bring along is just wacko right wing s***..

And, for the record, I'm a big supporter of the second amendment, and I own guns, but I feel no need to bring them out to a political gathering, because they're not supposed to be used for political scare-mongering..

And, being a brown skinned man, I'd probably be shot if I carried.

You know how the right wing LOVES to spout opinons as facts. They cannot see that others don't do the same.

Sorry, not meaning to hijack the thread, but the gun thing in the USA is something I do not get. We have few guns here, and few shootings. The USA has lots of guns, and lots of shootings (or so it seems from outside), include fairly regular mass shootings at schools... from an Aussie perspective, the American people's gun-madnesss seems to be a bit like cuting your nose off to spite your face...

That's just the impression you get from the media. Alot of us don't own guns and don't like guns. And where I live there is very little random shootings. Mainly drug related from the news reports I read.
Now the bigger cities with gangs may be different.
But where I live, guns are mainly used for hunting.

Your question: "If it were a bunch of Black people, or Middle Eastern people??

I posted an article and photo re: the Black Panthers protesting, while carrying AK-47s, at the Republican Convention in Texas in 2000. It barely got a mention in the MSM. People weren't freaking out.

Most shootings here are drug related. Every once in a while we'll have some random gang violence, but I'm pretty convinced that it's also either drug, or "turf" related, and turf is where they sell drugs.

Most of us normal people target shoot, and have them for protection of our homes.. If I'm really lucky, I'll get to spend a week or two in the fall hunting in Vermont.
