Its funny when I don't show my cat affection for a few days because he normally expects it from me. He will demand that I pat him.

I think when your cat kneads you, he is showing contentment.
Mine do it to me all the time; my one kitty in particular, Nikki, will do it EVERY night..she will jump on my body at random times and start, most of the time looking in my face.
Or she will simply when done go to sleep on top of me.
..cats are funny people!

My step brothers cat didn't like his ex-girlfriend to the point that it tried to murder her by suffocating her in her sleep. She was a big a** b**** though mainly to my step bro.

Cats can be surprisingly protective; I saw on the news once, where a cat attacked viciously, and drove off a potential burlar.
That really stayed with me.
Such could be the case with your step brother's cat..also, was the cat female? It may have been a bit jealous.lol
