would anyone be willing to support a fringe party at this years election, for eg. the greens, bnp, english nationalists, respect ect.....

would parliament be a better place if we had a system where all views could be debated instead of the usually elected big three?

how many seats if any do you think the following parties will gain?

1 green party
2.bnp
3 ukip
4.respect
5.eng nationalists

The BNP, UKIP, eng nationalists (if they're what I assume they are), don't deserve a place in parliment.

The Greens are OK though. Nice and socialist.

1 green party = hard left wingers who would like to ban cars. I would wager most people voting for them have no idea of their real policies.

2.bnp = unsavoury characters in suits with a not too cleverly hidden agenda.

3 ukip = xenophobes who think the wogs start at Calais. One trick party, who there is absolutely no reason whatsoever to vote for, as the LibDem party officially promises a referendum on coming out or staying out of Europe.

4.respect = don't be bloody stupid

5.eng nationalists = surprisingly serious and sensible, but no hopers.

that was not the question i raised.

it is not the purpose of this thread to dictate who or who should not be represented at westminister, that is a decision for the british electorate surely. i do not agree with some parties views, however i respect that they are in the democratic process and if they attract the support of the electorate then they deserve their place in the british parliament-

i feel the following parties potentially could make a breakthrough, the greens i feel could win possibly 2 seats, bnp potentially 1, ukip 3, respect 2, and loonies 0.

Out of that lot, the only one I would vote for would be the Green Party. I'm not even sure if I'll be able to vote anyway, it depends on whether I'm sleeping on someone's couch when election rolls around. Either that, or I'll just be moving into a new room or flat.

The only reason why other parties aren't as well established as the "big three" is because no one ever thinks to vote for them. The election is always a two horse race. If I had a ?1 for every time people have said they won't vote for the lib dems because no one ever does, I'd probably be a millionaire! So it's the public's fault that we never get anyone decent in government

The BNP are vile, UKIP not much better and I don't know a great deal about the Respect party. Out of those listed I would vote for the Green Party, my parents do every election.

Technically though, I would still go for the Lib Dems as they are operating on the fringe, albeit only just.

I don't think there's anything particularly wrong with FPTP voting as it stands, so I don't see the point in changing it.

In a one-person-one-vote system a fringe vote is wasted. And yet, in such a system, fringe parties are more likely to affect in a more unstable way: the small number of votes lost to fringe parties affects the outcome of elections but does not actually result in them being elected. All that happens is that who wins out of mainstream parties is disproportionately affected. We should have a scoring system, not a single vote for each person; that would be more representative.

Until then, I'm not going to vote for a fringe group, especially not one of dismal array of travelling circuses that call themselves political parties in the UK. I doubt many other people will, either; the mainstream centrist parties get all the votes, partly because of voter loyalty, the cautious nature of the electorate, funding and organisation, and genuine representativeness since they don't just seem to focus on a single issue, like the other parties:

Greens: Environment

BNP: Immigration

UKIP: The EU

Respect: Who the f*** even knows?

English Nationalists: England
