you're quite naive about immigration.

firstly, currently immigration is falling and in fact at one point if i remember correctly, overall our population dropped. (more emigration than immigration)

its all very well saying there's a huge amount of immigration, but that's quite simplistic.
it blatantly ignores the fact that a lot of our immigration is temporary, such as foreign students and it completely ignores, the large amount of people leaving the uk.

as for the costs you listed, 100 million,
that's tiny and near negligible, and even though its an old figure i highly doubt its much larger now.

and anyway overall immigrants help the the economy.

Local councils spend at least ?25m; the police ?21m; the courts system spends more than ?10m without accounting for the cost of legal aid; and the NHS - a conservative estimate is ?55m.

https://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/6172805.stm

As the above figures are 2006 you might expect them to have increased?.Let me re phrase that?.. most people that apply a little common sense will expect the figures to be higher now.

It sounds like a lot of money but it's chicken feed to the government. Did you know they will be spending two thousand million pounds on keeping Post Offices open over the next five years? Besides, immigration creates jobs and helps economic growth, there isn't an upper-limit to population growth in our country if the economy is properly managed and people can tolerate diversity. Foreign language interpretation courses is a good investment, in my opinion.

Migration watch? That's just a blatantly nationalist site and they presented about a quarter of the information that the EU times did on the story.

@retep Said

The huge increases in migrants over the last decade were partly due to a politically motivated attempt by ministers to radically change the country and ?rub the Right?s nose in diversity?, according to Andrew Neather, a former adviser to Tony Blair, Jack Straw and David Blunkett.
He said Labour?s relaxation of controls was a deliberate plan to ?open up the UK to mass migration? but that ministers were nervous and reluctant to discuss such a move publicly for fear it would alienate its ?core working class vote?.
As a result, the public argument for immigration concentrated instead on the economic benefits and need for more migrants.

Sounds like a good plan, and I'm not surprised they kept it a secret.

Incompetence and delays at the immigration service are causing untold misery and costing the country a fortune, according to a scathing assessment yesterday.
Labour is a 'very long way' from running a system that quickly deports foreigners with no right to live here, said a report by the Parliamentary ombudsman.
Ann Abraham found incompetence at almost every level of the asylum and immigration process - with backlogs running to hundreds of thousands of cases.
She warns the system is such a shambles that many illegal immigrants could soon benefit from an obscure rule which says those who avoid removal for 14 years can apply to stay here permanently.
In the meantime, the public is picking up a hefty bill for supporting asylum seekers and other migrants whose claims are unresolved, the ombudsman said.
Her report on the UK Border Agency says: 'For those who are unsuccessful the expectation must be that, unless there is some other reason why they should be allowed to stay in the UK, they should promptly leave the country, or be removed as soon as is practicable.
'In our experience the Border Agency are a very long way from achieving this. Historically some of the biggest problems they face, reflected in the complaints we receive, are those of very long delays in dealing with applications, and huge backlogs of work.'
The comments are highly damaging for Labour because of the neutrality and authority of the Parliamentary Ombudsman.

We have already done the DM thing and toilet paper if you care to look at post two and three it will show you that buffallobill already had the same little knee jerk as you. He also failed to read what was said, instead just like you came out with the usual predictable left wing slagging off the DM....Your post is another example of no argument, and no debating position...instead another stupid condemnation of anything that questions the lefts ivory tower idiocy.

Your co knee jerker Buffallobill who also makes reference to his toilet paper preference (bloody strange the pair of you if you ask me)......Anyway Buffallobill buys the Guardian (although only for the crossword ) I dont think you can say that socialist rag is right wing can you?

No?

OK then here is the same story from them for you.

Just in case you miss the point again, it is reporting what the Parliamentary Ombudsman says in a report published today.

Get it?

Its not editorial in the wicked DM... the DM was reporting exactly what the Guardian is repting here accurate news....

I await the next half dozen word intelligent argument from the left....maybe this time you will spare me any further revelation of your arse wiping preferences and habits....so kind thank you.

Just for you......

The UK Border Agency's failure to manage its workload is penalising individuals, draining public funds and jeopardising confidence in the asylum and immigration system, according to a report published today.

The report, by the parliamentary ombudsman, finds that the UKBA still has "a long way to go" to ensure that its administration, complaints handling procedures and remedy mechanisms are adequate.

It gives examples of how the UKBA's failure to resolve applications within a reasonable period has had a damaging effect on the individuals involved and public perceptions of the system.

In one case, a Somali man who applied for asylum and was granted indefinite leave to remain in May 2000 did not receive his status documents until February 2008.

In another, a Jamaican man who was granted indefinite leave to remain had to wait three-and-a-half years for the agency to give him the passport stamp he needed to prove he was entitled to stay in Britain. While he awaited the stamp, he was ?threatened with deportation, missed the funerals of his father and sister and could not visit his ill mother for fear that he would not be allowed back into Britain.

The parliamentary ombudsman ? who independently investigates complaints about government departments ? has received 478 complaints about the UKBA since last June.

Oh what the hell have this one on me as well....

Ann Abraham, the Parliamentary Ombudsman, launched a wide-ranging attack on the immigration system and revealed that two new backlogs of up to 110,000 cases have built up because the agency was concentrating on clearing other delays.

It also emerged that illegal immigrants who stay undetected in the country for 14 years can then apply for indefinite leave to remain under a 40-year-old rule.

Abraham said the agency risks losing public faith in the system and criticised the fact long delays in dealing with cases was costing society as a whole.

The report, Fast and Fair?, was drawn up after the ombudsman became increasingly concerned over the number and nature of complaints against the agency.

She said: "Indeed there are numerous examples where the Agency have been unable to perform at even a basic level of administration, such as reading and replying to letters, keeping proper records, keeping case files together and in the proper place, and notifying the applicant of their decision."

immigration is the issue that always seems to get silenced prior to an election, however this time it will become a central issue.

its not about ending immigration, its an argument about sheer numbers. the fact that this government has presided over an open door policy for thirteen years, the strains this is putting on the uk job and housing market, the starins of education and nhs services, and prison numbers, the strain on benefit migrants who are tourists simply playing our inept welfare system.

we know labour hates britain in its historical sense, it seeks to destroy this by mongrelisation of the indigenous peoples of our isles. mass migration only serves the government and they will rely on the votes of immigrants to hold onto any sort of power.

all the time that britains identity is eroded, sovereignty given away, british people are becoming silenced and are giving up on any chance of opposition to the big three who all do stand for the same continuation of the traits i have mentioned.

the longer the big three are not brought to account over the sell out of our nation, the worse it will become for us, our children and generations to come.

as an island nation we simply cannot continue on this path of self destruction, if we ignore this madness, the very fabric of our so-called cohesive society will tear and the wholes will be filled with fanaticism, social disorder and tensions.

enoch powell famously predicted racial discord, new labour and their so called opposition parties are helping bring this about. shame on them all,

Like I said Labour is stealing the BNPs clothes for electoral advantage and because they are s*** scared...The hypocrisy of the labour party is without peer...and there will still be idiots repeating the party line brain washing bulls***, and voting for them.

You can slag off the daily Masil all you want but it wont change the facts and they wont go away.

Here is a bit more about labour hypocrits......

The carefully worded letters all send the same sympathetic messages to local 'white families' about the difficulties caused by the record rise in immigration.

Soothing words of comfort are combined with powerful pledges of action to ease the pressure on jobs, school places and council housing.
'There is a great deal of worry about the pressure on schools, doctors' surgeries and housing allocations,' reads one of them. 'I want you to help me keep the pressure up on the Government in relation to reforming and updating our immigration and citizenship rules and laws.'

Stirring stuff indeed. So which party do you think is promising to fight the Government on these policy failings? The Conservatives? UKIP, perhaps?
No, with astonishing hypocrisy, these pledges come from the Labour Party itself. For the authors are senior Labour MPs who fear losing their seats as a result of the political fall-out from the mass immigration policy that they gladly helped to implement.
Dozens of these letters from sitting Labour MPs have been passed to the Daily Mail - and the authors all have one thing in common. They are fighting for their political lives because of the threat posed by the odious, far-Right British National Party.
They include Ed Balls, the Schools Secretary and key ally of Gordon Brown, and Margaret Hodge, the Culture Minister who is fighting a seat in the East End of London.
