Many of Hitler's key decisions were bizarre. He stated on many occassions the importance of not fighting on two fronts and then commits himself to effectively fighting on three fronts (Western, Eastern and Southern/African). He then declared war on the US days after Pearl Harbour. This was very stupid in by Hitler's standards.

FDR wanted the US to enter the war against the Germans but the bulk of the US populace didnt. Less than 10 months before Pearl Harbour a poll showed that 92% of Americans wanted the US to stay out of the war against the Nazis. FDR was himself elected on the promise that he would keep the US out of a war he wanted to join. After Pearl Harbour the mood in the US was one of anger and determination to make the Japanese pay for attacking Pearl Harbour. But there was still no change in the attitude towards war with Germany. FDR must have been wondering how he was going to manoeuvre the US into a position where he could enter the war against the Nazis. And then he is given an early Christmas present as Hitler defies all logic and declares war on the US.

Well i guess you're right! When he said that in a future war Germany must do everything to avoid fighting a war on two fronts he didnt mention anything about fighting on three fronts! Maybe he just didnt like even numbers!
