I think we should end the death penalty because if we keep taking an eye for an eye one day the whole world will be blind.

I guess the difference is, to me anyway, the whole death penalty thing is very biblical, the only advantage it has is that its cheaper than keeping someone in prison for decades. Oh and it dehumanises the act of killing. But whatever

if tougher prison senteces were inforced, criminals would be more scared to commit crimes there for keeping crime rate down.

That seems to make sense, but ultimately it's not really true when it comes to serious crimes.

The point is just if you're wrong about who commited the crime. At least with a life sentence, they have their whole lives to find a way to prove their innocence. Once you're dead, that's it, no going back.

By your same logic though, it sounds like you're saying that since jail is so bad, no one should be sent there at all.

In most instances, the murder is not consodered in the appeal. The mental condition of the convicted is.

I think life imprisonment is much worse. I would rather get the death penalty if given the choice.

Why should YOU, as the murderer, be given that choice?

I think the fundamental difference is the chance for appeal. A life sentence can be revoked if the person is later found innocent. Death is permanent, though.

One thing about life imprisonment, it gives the criminal to reflect on what they've done. Some don't care, never will, but some WILL come to regret their actions (some will as soon as they have done it) and THAT will be worse for them then death.

Justice isn't about vengeance, and it shouldn't be.

Personally, I would hate the idea that someone would be killed because of ME, no matter what THEY had done.
