Some people would argue that counselling is a form of therapy and that both these things are hard to distinguish.

Perhaps. I always viewed counseling as being like something one uses to help oneself get back on ones feet, whereas therapy always suggested having someone else help one get better.

Sorry, didn't articulate that particularly well. Hard to describe what I mean.

No need to apologise; there are many people (mostly in the profession) who would distinguish between psychotherapy and counselling. In fact many practitioners argue about it. However, the main thing is that people get what they want from their therapist. I am a great believer in clients informing therapists - it is the clients who are the experts. In light of this I am actually carrying out online research which asks people what they find helpful in therapy.

Would you have really stayed with your therapist if they had said that?

I've been in therapy, with the same therapist since I was 15. Well I guess that's not entirely true, I had different therapists when I was in the hospital. But it's been great to have an outside party to vent to.

I have seen 13 different therapists... Only 2 of them were any good and unfortunately due to circumstances changing I had to discontinue seeing them.
Im going down the medication road now...

I've seen more than one psychologist. I miss 2 out of 3. One moved away and I just stopped going to the other because I felt that I needed my family there for the therapy to be effective. Most of my problems are family related and they refuse to do anything to make things better. I just can't do it on my own. The burden is too heavy.

I had therapy many years. I quit a while ago. I always hated therapy. And I wish I never took meds becuase they always made behavior worse.
