Having just got a puppy, the business of naming it was extremely difficult..Do you think naming an animal is based on looks/appearance or maybe something else.

I would like to know the phycology of it.

For me, I had to choose a name my baby niece could say easily

go with whatever you seem is right for the puppy.. each puppy has a different and unique personality which certain names go beautifully..

Gosh, we have named some of our animals names that we just really like. Others cause they look like a "blank" And some have been named after a family member. So I guess we dont have any reason to our naming

Well, naming my cats I went by personality.

You can't name a very sweet, loving cat Killer or Viper.
I have a very sweet, 10 month old orange tabby, and I named him Romeo.
Appropriate for how loving and sweet he is.

When I got my tabby/siamese kitten (now 10 months as well), he was very curious and funny and he made me think of the cartoon Dexter's Laboratory. Plus, Dexter is a really cute name.

I have 5 cats and I named every last one of them by watching them;the things that they did, what their personalities are like, the traits that come out-I have a cat that everytime he takes a drink,he looks like he's digging for it.I have another one that used to flush the can all the time...etc.My cats seem to be all pinheads anyway so have fun naming them-It really is fun to name a new pet and have fun with the new puppy!

It has to do with looks and personality.

I named a cat Oreo because he was black and white, Snickers because she was calico with the colors of a snickers, Peaches because of the orange color, Striper because of his stipes, and I named my dog Scotty because he looks like a a scottie dog even though he's a cocker spanial.
Try the names out and see how they sound. No matter what you pick, it will fit eventually.
