Alan Turing, the mathemetician who has been described as the father of computer science, has received a post-humous apology from Gordon Brown on behalf of the British Government for his poor treatment. He committed suicide in 1952 after being criminally charged with homosexuality.

Gordon Brown said:
"his treatment was of course utterly unfair and I am pleased to have the chance to say how deeply sorry I and we all are for what happened to him."

He was a main participant in the efforts to break German encryption during World War Two. He designed an electromechanical contraption which was used to decipher the Enigma code.

Without doubt one of the most brilliant men ever to have lived.

Who knows what else he would have done had he not been hounded to death because he was homosexual.
