I definitely agree that society has a lot to do with this, even though things are changing nowadays. I grew up with 5 brothers and they were definitely told/taught that men do not cry, and my step dad was taught the same thing growing up. Now, I am in a relationship with a really nice guy who has no problem showing emotions and while I know this is a good thing, it sometimes makes me uncomfortable. As a matter of fact, he cried today and I had no clue how to respond to him.

uh huh, that's the way it is. So it all should be situational,
and we can teach our boys (and girls) that it's okay to cry
---but no one wants to be around someone who cannot get their
emotions in check in a reasonable amount of time. That's not
to say, that if she/he needs a good cry, they shouldn't have it
---but maybe the middle of the football game or gymnastics
meet or family gathering is not the best time for a ten minute
full-blown crying jag, kwIm?

I can understand crying when someone dies, but I've never, and will never, cry over a failed relationship.

Part of it is that it just doesn't seem worth it, and another part is I don't get close enough with anyone (girlfriends included) for it to strike me so hard.

After you are raised and conditioned not to cry over stuff, then it comes natural. I cried when my grandma died, and when my pets died. I didnt cry when my mom died, mostly because I thought it was a sick joke for over a year.

I dont cry in front of people...I also dont cry over girlfriends...There really is no point in getting bent out of shape...Most of the time when I see people crying, I cant help but think that it isnt solving anything...

The Cure.

I would say I'm sorry
If I thought that it would change your mind
But I know that this time
I've said too much
Been too unkind

I try to laugh about it
Cover it all up with lies
I try and
Laugh about it
Hiding the tears in my eyes
'cause boys don't cry
Boys don't cry

I would break down at your feet
And beg forgiveness
Plead with you
But I know that
It's too late
And now there's nothing I can do

So I try to laugh about it
Cover it all up with lies
I try to
laugh about it
Hiding the tears in my eyes
'cause boys don't cry

I would tell you
That I loved you
If I thought that you would stay
But I know that it's no use
That you've already
Gone away

Misjudged your limits
Pushed you too far
Took you for granted
I thought that you needed me more

Now I would do most anything
To get you back by my side
But I just
Keep on laughing
Hiding the tears in my eyes
'cause boys don't cry
Boys don't cry
Boys don't cry

I think a lot of guys do cry and will if they are upset enough. I think that most will try not to cry in front of others if they can.

I must admit I don't know a guy who hasn't admitted to crying over something - a death (even a pet) heartbreak, even a football game that didn't go well.

I have to say, I find it very upsetting to see a man cry. Chicks cry over lots of things I guess - nothing wrong with that. But if a guy is crying, you know that something is very wrong.

I must say i cry when bad s*** happens, but i won'y cry in front of someone unless i trust them a lot. Its usually, anger, then crying, then anger at having cried.
