The one with the Car in it, So

This is one of the only poems i've ever written, because i'm not usually the type to write them. last year my father was sent overseas to fight in the war for 6 months. i call my poem "the void."

The emptiness of what used to be
A void that is destroying me
what used to be there now is not
Sometimes I stare at that void and picture it there
But as time fades away the picture rots

Sometimes I remember his his voice in my head
I catch myself coming out and expecting him to be there
There was so much to be said
But not enough time to put it in the air

My throat dried up as he walked away
Too many thoughts rambling in my head
I tried to reach out and grab him, but he was to far away
Now all I can do is remember all of the things he said

It has been a while since he has left
I try to ignore the pain and rest
I always keep him in my prayers
And hope he is sleeping with enough layers

The missing part of me is painful
Sometimes I sit and smile about what used to be
What fills me with joy is what is going to be
When that void goes away

I still feel as if the war should go on
For the safety of people everywhere
If only we could end it with a song
He wouldn't be there

But the war wont end that way
If he were to die to end the war
I would be glad he was sent there
So many things I would want to say

The ones who are against the war
Would say I did not love him
Honestly I would die for him
And wait for my family at heavens door.

Yeah. it's always tough when a parent leaves for war... back in WWII They didn't have email though, so that makes it quite harder than my experience ...

I wasn't born until 1955, he went to Korea and my brother remembers more than I do. He wrote a book about it called-Letters From Joe. Save those emails, you'll treasure them some day.

I already am.... We didn't actually get to write much though, because i wasn't the type to sit around and mope about it all day... brings back some memories.

the greatest day of my life was the day he came home, on the last day of August in 2008. He came out and hugged my mother, and we all started crying tears of joy. Never before or since have I cried tears of joy.
