@osm Said

it really did strike well and truly out of the way: https://www.geonet.org.nz/earthquake/quakes/3124785g-maps.html

The other article I posted earlier states that it was felt strongly in all the major cities down in the bottom part of the South Island, and my sister is down in Dunedin in one of the places where it was felt strongly. I'm sure she is ok but i'm still waiting to hear back from her.

I really hope your sisters ok babe

Its just been upgraded to a 7.8 earthquake. Huge. Ties as the 2nd biggest magnitude earthquake New Zealand has ever experienced.

I'm waiting for the pictures to come out of fiordland now of all the landslides that have taken place in that part of the country

I had heard, here in the US, on a TV broadcast just 10 minutes ago, that a Tsunami warning had been issued......... but, the dolts did not say where.

you have nothing to worry about with the tsunami, at maximum it was only 17cm in height here, so by the time its travelled across the pacific it will be merely an ebb

I'm glad everyone is alright. When I lived in California, there were some earthquakes. I remember being so afraid. Now I live in tornado country.
