Does any one know of any good horror films with the main or one of the main supporting characters as a mother that is also a monster something like carrie?

Throw Momma From The Train is pretty good. Late 80's, Danny de Vito, Billy Crystal.
Psycho is great, but of course, the mother is a spectre of the main characters imagination. Present for a lot of the film nonetheless.
And the 80's film/mini-series Sybil (Sally Field, Joanne Woodward) is creepy but compelling viewing if you can get your hands on a copy.
The best film illustrating maternal cruelty is Mommie Dearest, the account of the cruel parenting techniques and life of actress Joan Crawford. It is based on a book written by her own daughter.

If you want a wierd "B" movie, go with The Granny.

It's a horribly stupid movie, but it's good for laughs.

Grandmas were mothers too. 8)

Jason Voorhee's Mother was the killer in the original Friday the 13th movie, and it was because of her death that he picked up where she left off.
