I have been having some pretty bad cramps in my lower abdomen, back, and legs. I know its probably having to do with having my baby, but I haven't been able to control the pain. I was on Lorcet Plus for my postpartum pain but I can't afford the prescription, and Tylenol is not helping. what else can I try? I can't take any other meds really because im breastfeeding so I guess im looking for suggestions on natural ways to control the pain.

Cramps can be caused by a lack of sodium (my dad gets pretty bad cramping because he has recurrent kidney stones and has to have a very very low sodium intake) so I don't know what your salt in take is like but that might help.

That and drinking tonic water

magnesium sulfate is also used by doctors to help prevent premature labor, so you could get a 2-fer with that one.

Maybe you need more salt then? Btw, the ratio of calcium to magnesium in a supplement makes a difference. Most supplements have more calcium than magnesium, but the problem with that is that most people are more deficient in magnesium than calcium, and calcium competes with magnesium. So it's possible you may need more magnesium than your supplement is providing. If you are having cramps, that seems even more likely, given that doctors routinely give magnesium to women in premature labor in an effort to stop it.

Sportsdrinks like Gatorade are probably the fastest for pain relief. They regulate your electrolytes (magnesium/potattium)Ask your dr. first.

I don't think Gatorade has magnesium, I think it's just sodium and potassium.
