Is it normal for men to have mood swings? Lately I find that sometimes the smallest things set me off. I'll go from calm and peaceful to a raving lunatic in a split second. Usually over something on the TV news. But, the public and traffic will do it too.
I've not mentioned it to my doc yet. I'm afraid he'll put me on more pills and he has me on enough of them already.
Maybe it's all the meds I'm on, or a political overload, or just from trying to quit drinking, eating right and exercising all at once instead of tapering off. Sh!t, I don't know. I just know I'm afraid to be around people much. No, I don't get physically violent. Just yell a lot.

You should always consult a physician when you start to notice changes on your mood, memory, sleep-patterns etc. As for whether it's normal, I really don't know. It could be anything from the andropause (which can cause death so you have to get that checked out) to a side-effect of your pills. The only person who can really give a decent opinion on this this your doctor. Go.

Putting your body under that kind of stress has these kinds of side-effects. Quitting anything you're addicted to cold turkey sends your mental state all over the place.

Did you have anger issues before quitting?

You have pretty blatent signs of an authoritarian personality and i doubt it is simply the effect of quitting, but it certainly doesn't help.
Maybe something along the lines of anger management could help?

I think it's a mixture of everything put together. It is only fair that you're feeling this overwhelming set of emotions. Try to relax yourself with things you like. Take a deep breath and reject those feelings, say "NO. I DON'T NEED TO FEEL LIKE THAT"...practice that and you will be completely in control of your emotions. As soon as you feel these overwhelming feelings coming on, plan a way you can immediately do something to relax yourself and stabilise those feelings. I normally make myself tea, listen to music, write poetry, or write down how I'm feeling, create art...have a cigarette...

It is not weird. Many people suffer from this. Men and female, so you're not alone.

No, I'm not going postal. I've always had a violent streak but tempered it pretty well. Haven't punched out anyone since I got crippled up. No longer own any firearms. I'll mention it to my doc in 6 weeks when I go back. Thanks.

If you are changing many things in your life at once, that can have a drastic effect on you medically and mentally. Going through withdrawls possibly. Or as crazychica posted, it could be andropause.

My dad had andropause. We had no clue what was wrong with him. He lost 60+lbs, massive mood swings(on top of him having manic depression which he is medicated for). He went for multiple blood tests, cat scans, MRI, tested for Cancer. It was freaking us all out and driving us crazy with worry. Finally a specialist mentioned andropause and did whatever tests they do to check for it. It was such a relief to find out what he had.
