Underneath the Cyanide Sun....
#1New Post! Mar 08, 2009 @ 16:16:12
Okay, I'm really bored so I'm starting a story thread. Tell a sad, funny or scary story to entertain the bored such as myself. I'll start.

Ahem,

Once upon a time there was a princess. The princess was very beautiful (it's like some requirement for princesses) and all the guys in the land wanted her. Her father, the King, set up three suitors for her and lined them up in a room in the castle. THe first began to tell her how beautiful she was and throwing all sorts of flattery at her. The princess gave him an exasperated look and moved onto the next guy. He gave her a boquet of roses and lillies and told her how beatiful she was. She sighed and though of how many of those she had in her wardrobe already. She moved onto the final suitor and looked at him. He didn't give her anything, but he pointed to her and said; "You have a booger in your nose."
The princess began to laugh and they lived happily hever after.

The moral of the story is, words and gifts mean nothing, but if you can make her laugh, you got it made. 8)

Give me your best short story.

Okay, a little self promotion here.
This is the introduction and first chapter of an upcoming book, now in editing. It's a murder mystery, we'll leave it like that. I hope that it peaks your interest. sjo/jazz

Introduction

The darkness had just settled on the house; she was finally alone. Most nights the solace was good; quiet peaceful times to reflect. This night was somehow peculiar; a hand seemed to have grabbed and twisted her guts. The phone and electricity had gone out while she was trying to get comfortable and warm; something was not right. Most nights when left on her own she was happy for the time to write,
she'd been having trouble keeping up with her work. Jessie was usually her own best companion, lately something within her had changed. There was no one to talk to who would really understand; she just knew that a promise made to her would happen. Jessie was going to die; it would not come swiftly, the torture had just begun.

Chapter 1 Jessie thought of herself as the normal American woman; she worked too much never played enough. Hank and she had been married for thirty years, had a fairly typical marriage and a grown son. Their marriage had been through quite a bit over the years and the past had been lingering on her mind. They had always loved one another even though that ?in love? feeling had been missing and neither one was able to meet the other?s needs.
Consumed by a chronic illness she doubted what she wanted or needed. Certainly Hank?s current cold behavior was a reflection of her own and it troubled her. Would their marriage survive memories that she couldn?t get past; she had reason to pause, reflect, and cry. They had been each other?s lives for so long she knew no other; yet his betrayal left a hole. Perhaps Jessie was making things more difficult than they had to be; even so something was destined to happen.
It had been fourteen years since that eye opening event had left her tumbling down the stairs by his hand and the police had taken Hank to prison. Looking back Jessie realized that she had never released her deepest emotions from those terrible days. Holding on to them, refusing to give them up would be her downfall and Jessie couldn?t stop the landslide.
