yes because you can combine the single coil with the humbuckers, and of course the two different humbuckers being in different places, also vary in sound.

yeah! place a metchstick between each selector switch position will give you even more range of sounds and tones

the strat is to flimsy for me,i prefer the weight of a les paul around my shoulders.

Strats and Les Pauls are lame

I've now got:

2 Ibanez RG7620s, one's a '99, the other is a '00
1 '02 Washburn WG587
1 '02 Ibanez G10 parts guitar
1 '86 Hondo Formula V Rhoads copy
1 '85 Cruise Piece-of-crap guitar.

Trying to get rid of the Cruise and probably even the washburn, though, cause a guy's trading me a Kramer Striker 7 for one of my 7620s, and the washburn is kinda iffy on quality, nowhere near as nice as my RGs.

The pickups are pretty bad, and the wood has a few dead spots, which really hurt its tone.

also, for what it's worth, Clapton played both Strats and Gibson SGs, and some of his more memorable tones did come from the SG, which has a pair of humbuckers.

A 5-way selector can be wired a few different ways. the ones on my RGs are actually designed so that the middle position taps the bridge pickup to create a single-coil tone, whereas the WG587's is pretty standard fare
Bridge
BM
Middle
MN
Neck

Now, if it only sounded good in any position. But, first things first.

Ibanez are small fry compared to Gibson and Fender.

I love Fender Jazz basses. But for guitar, I'll take a Gibson over anything.

Opinions. Serious business. I can't stand either Fender or Gibson, because they do not and have no intention to ever cater to my wants as a guitarist. They're too traditional.
