All very good advice. Can't add any more. I do all of them and find which works for the back pain I have at the time.

Unfortunately for me sitting straight is not doable due to my spine being pushed in instead of out due to car accidents and injuries. But follow all the advice, well one at a time and find the one that works best for your back pain..

The other thing I do if my back aches is lean all the way back and stretch it out. How much longer I can do that for is debatable

I know just how you feel, i have had back problems for the last 17 years and the doctor called it degenerative disk disease. what i do about it is just put a heating pad on it. dont set it on high though cause that will make it worse. try to move around a little in a lying down position. If you cant do that, try moving around in a chair and whatever you do dont stay still then you will lock up and thats no fun. I wish you the best of luck. i hope it helps

Most likely Lower back pain is caused by tension of the hip rotators in your gluteal area (piriformis and gluteus medius) they go tight due to poor bio-mechanical posture, stance or sometimes a one off movement that triggers a spasm in the lower back region. If muscle relaxers don't work try to stretch your legs by lying on the floor bringing your knee to your chest in a 90 degree bent. (your knee and ankle should be in line) You should feel a stretch on the outside of your 'beackside' do this with both legs for about 10 minutes provided that it doen't hurt more afterwards. each stretch should be held for about 20 seconds. I'm sure this will provided that it is executed in a correct way. (don't do it if you have a history of spinal problems!)

Hope this will help.

I've had back problems since I developed large boobs, so about age 13. Along with huge hooters, I've fallen off a small cliff, and got thrown from a horse. Those don't really help my back problems.

I'd go see a doctor SOON. Back problems can get really bad as time goes on. I didn't get my back checked out till way later and now I have to have surgery to get it sorted.

I've been having back pains before too. I changed chairs at work and suddenly it went away! Also make sure your bed provides even and distributed cushioning throughout your body.

95% of back pain is simply bad posture & not lifting objects properly, with the back straight!!
I used to have serious lower back pain, & eventually I realized that it was my lifting posture at work! Ever since I've been highly into fitness I've had no back pain. By aware of a flexibly straight back, friends 8)

I have scoliosis and with an injured ankle, my PT and my primary physician confirmed that the limp was causing my whole body to move in ways it's not designed to move. I had surgery on my ankle 2 weeks ago, so once that heals up sufficiently, I'm going to have an adjustment by my chiropractor. Thank you all for the suggestions!!

Help! My back is killing me! It's been hurting off and on since yesterday but right now I can't get comfortable no matter how I sit. Unfortunately I'm not allowed to take any pain medication until next Friday Any ideas on helping a sore back feel better in the meantime?

True... when I was over in Scotland my back started hurting REALLY bad, so my fiance gave me some whiskey and *poof* the pain went away! Although if my back starts hurting here I can't resort to alcohol
