One of those age-old questions, but what do you think-- can men and women be platonic friends (or are there always romantic/sexual undercurrents)?

And as you might have suspected, I raise the subject because it's come up in my relationship. My boyfriend doesn't dig all of the close and long-lasting friendships I have with guys. He's not asking me to terminate them, but clearly wants me to come to that conclusion myself. And he claims that ALL men feel the same.

Jealousy or suspicion aside it becomes a problem when you partner returns home starting fights based on what her 'friends' told her a 'good' relationship is.

If you have a male friend who his a devil on your shoulder playing down your boyfriend, and those concerns are brought up to him, it won't be long before your boyfriend realizes he needs to be studying more for his future than playing soap-opera-drama / dress-up games and gives you the 'It's not you; it's me' letter.

The friendship is possible if you find similar minded friends. One cannot choose own family but has the opportunity to choose the friends. Quality over quantity always works.
I'll admit to never wanting to know the very personal thoughts of a male friend about our frienship. By that I mean, if he ever had any sexual thoughts.
I consider it as private, but at the same time, the most filthy and dark place to venture.

Personally, it's easier for me to be friends with women when I'm in a relationship or know that they are in a relationship. It's possible and depends on the person, I just don't like people who tell you, you can't be friends with or talk to them because I don't like them. It's not your spouses or boy/girlfriends place to be telling who to talk to unless you've expressed issues of sex or anything of that nature

I think it makes it easier if she not a smoking hot chick.

of course you can have friends of the opposite sex, if your parter is not happy with that, what does that say about the respect they have for you, not allot, what happened to trust, what's the point of sharing your life with someone who thinks you will jump into bed behind their back at any opportunity.

if your with someone who thinks that little of you, your with the wrong person.

One of my best friends is male. I've known him over 30 years. He teases me saying I have more testosterone than some of his male friends. I counter with I was raised be a man, most of childhood was spent with a bunch of Jarheads, so in a lot of ways I think like a man. I am diffently not the girly type.

I believe so. My best friend is a female and we've been friends for 7 years.

Can men and women be "just friends"?

I suppose that is a rhetorical question...right? Why would any man want a woman to be his friends when she could be his dominatrix?

Hmmmm....dominatrix...

My daughter used to say that a lot but would knock on her head with her knuckles a couple of times between the two lines.

And Happy New Year Dulu!
