So basically, if Apple tells you what video cards you can have, they're only saving you cash.

How nice of them to keep me from wasting my money.

And by the way... whose choice was it to deviate from industry standard PC hardware when switching to x86? Hint: Apple chose a different motherboard BIOS standard specifically to maintain their level of hardware control even though they're using industry standard parts everywhere else.

You're treating this as if there is an industry standard and a sub-industry standard.

Don't forget about super-industry standard.

Apple uses EFI because it was new and also better.

Apple moved to an x86 architecture that had been around for 20 years.

Apple moved to the same line of Intel processors, the same type of RAM, the same system buses, etc, as had been standard in the PC world since the PC world existed.

Yet they changed one thing, and one thing only. One thing that had no effect on anything whatsoever.

The only effect of this change was to prevent the use of standard motherboards, and, therefore, prevent anyone from building their own systems.

Uh, yea. Of course they did.

Need you see this video again?

The problem wasn't Apple. Apple tried it, lost it's ass, and figured out "hey! lets not do that s*** again!"

And lets not forget that my PowerMac G4 can handle any PC-100 RAM, any video card which has firmware compatible with my Sonett upgrade card, as well as any industry standard hardware.

Stop thinking that just because everyone else has something it is better. Get it through your head. BIOS IS LEGACY!!

So you really think Apple moved to EFI because it's... somehow just better?

No, sorry. Apple moved to EFI because it was the only possible way to move to an x86 architecture and still maintain control over the means of production of OS X-compatible machines.

Hello.

"The original motivation for EFI came during early development of the first Intel-HP Itanium systems in the mid-1990s. PC BIOS limitations (16-bit processor mode, 1 MB addressable space, PC AT hardware dependencies, etc.) were seen as clearly unacceptable for the larger server platforms Itanium was targeting. The initial effort to address these concerns was initially called Intel Boot Initiative and was later renamed to EFI.[2]"

"An EFI boot manager is also used to select and load the operating system, removing the need for a dedicated boot loader mechanism (the OS boot loader is an EFI application)."

"Compatibility with x86 operating systems that require ?legacy BIOS? interfaces to operate is handled through a compatibility support module (CSM). The CSM includes a 16-bit binary (CSM16) supplied by a BIOS vendor and a ?thunk? layer to connect CSM16 to the Framework."

https://www.intel.com/technology/efi/

The PC platform has had more than 20 years to upgrade.

Unfortunately, I can't elaborate because it would violate the TOS.

I will, however, no longer engage you in any capacity on these topics.
