School Canteen Dinners

I hear all the time about people who berate school canteen dinners and talk with horror about lumpy custard, tapioca, spam fritters and cauliflower with cheese sauce.

I have to say I must have gone to very good schools because any meals we had I almost always found to be lovely. I know of people who just cannot face certain foods because of their school canteen experiences and I for one cannot drink milk because of the horrific luke warm milk we had to drink as children in school.

What was your experience of school canteen dinners?

I found a bone in my beef curry I haven't touched the stuff since and I loved it.

Then there was that time in high school when I bought a salad only to find after I'd opened it and eaten about half of it that it was past it's use by date.

Then there was the turkey. I've never eaten turkey since then and the smell alone is enough to make my stomach churn.

The weird part is our school tried to convince us all to start eating from the cafeteria again. The only people who ate food from there were first years and people who got them free.

TURKEY TWIZZLERS!!!!! they were crap but i loved them.

The food I had at the schools I went to was OK. Some of it good some of it sucked, but you just learned what not to eat. In High school, there was also a grill and deep fryer place so we could get burgers and fries or whatnot.

I went to a school that had the rep of having the worst cafeteria food in the state. It was bad but you could always have cereal or a sandwich if you didn't like the hot option.

I avoided it anyway that I could.

The food at my old college wasn't too bad...

I've actually not eaten the food at my new college yet so I dunno

I've never eaten a great deal of canteen food. I said on a thread the other day that I prefer to make my own food cause I know what's gone in it.
