Boxerdc - people compartmentalize. Being irked at something pointless doesn't mean we'll explode at big issues. Life would be pretty empty if you were completely emotionless at everything but the big things.
By the way, how do you get through life being worked up about little things like sending turkeys to Disneyworld when nearly a trillion dollars has been spent on a war largely considered to be unjust, thousands of people around the world die of starvation daily while we throw good food in the trash, and half the world's population live on less than $2.50 a day?
