Beyond the scope of our own perception, "meaning" does not exist.

indeed.

To be or not to be, that was the question !

The only problem is, that the whole question is wrong, it should be "To do, or not to do". Actions are existence.

I'd expand it to include other animals. But that's essentially correct.

to do or not to do is compleate rubbish
you can dream of doing something.... and that doesnt make it real
congito ergo sum
i think therfore i am
the only cirtian thing i have foud is that i know i exist because i have thoughts, and therefore they must exist, even if nothing else does

a zen buddhist might say "i think therefore i am not"
maybe thinking helps you exist, but if you truly want to live you have to ground yourself in the reality of the present, instead of being caught up in your thoughts..... or in other words "i am aware, therefore i am"...

No. Meaning still exists without you. To others there is meaning. If your perception stops because you are asleep, other people will know that since you are not talking it must mean that you are asleep.

Just because something does not exist a priori does not imply that its existence is invalid or in anyway compromised compared to that of physical matter. Indeed, look at the Meditations that were eluded to earlier in this thread and I'd bet you'd have to agree that the existence of physical substances and analytic truths are just as indefinite as that of meaning.

Truly, the saying "Beyond the scope of our own perception, "meaning" does not exist." has a meaning of its own. So it seems that you get stuck in that nasty old self refutation loop.

Don't know, don't much care. If I had to guess I'd say it probably does. The way I see it the physical world, whether it exist in its own right or not, is a force to reckoned with in peoples lives, so we should treat it as though it were real and learn as much about it as we can, by way of science.

Yes, meaning for us personally does not exist outside of our own perception. Although, even if we do not perceive, those who do perceive still have meaning because their perception exists.

but to the person who cannot percive, do we exist? and if not, is it only his thoughts that exist?

I feel, not just feel, but with all inner emotions as well. I feel that I exist and with existance it must mean something. Just sometimes tired of chasing the mysteries of it. What is the meaning of this? I wish I knew, but I surely exist with or without meaning.
