Fish do not have the same type of brain that humans have in terms of storing memory. They rely mostly on conditioned responses. That's why goldfish in a pond will swim over to you if you put your hand out as if you have food in it.

Although I once had a pet muskellunge named Ed that used to talk to me. But that's another story...
