Does it matter? We are all made of the same s***! internal organs skin cartalige fluid and air. Black people have dark skin so they dont get sunburned. They lived in africa where the sun beats down really hot so they needed a way to survive.

Great point...

TBH, Black, White or mixed race - what does it matter.

At least none of those terms are as offensive as say half caste. That really pisses me off,

Half-caste (or half-cast) is a term used to describe people of mixed race or enthicity. Caste comes from the Latin castus, meaning pure, and the derivative Portuguese and Spanish casta, meaning race. The term originates from the Indian caste-system, where a person of 'lesser' or half-caste would be deemed to be of a 'lower class'. While the origins of the term are derogatory, its usage has evolved to give it the more objective meaning described above.

I don't like the word because of its origin.

what the funk?

anyway, people don't have access to your genetic history when they meet you, if your skin is white they'll assume you're white, if it isn't then assume you arn't.
since 'black' covers a huge range of ethnic backgrounds and physically quite an array of shades of skin colour, nobody will be able to tell if you're mixed race.
therefore on first impression they will be 'black'.

whats more important than such a definition is what you think and assume when you hear or think 'black', not if you assume people are black.

You always have something brilliant to say my friend...

what would you class someone who's mixed race as if you had to put them into a bracket???

I would probably say black over white

I think south africa used to have blacks (all black), whites (all white) and coloreds (mixed).

But why is it always "black and white"? what about all the other races on the planet?

It's a scientific fact that if you have even one drop of black blood in you, then you are black, even if it doesn't show.

that was a law at one time (in some states) but is not scientific.

I think it would depend on whatever race that person identifies themselves. One mixed person might identify themselves as black, another white, and yet another might see themselves as both.

I wouldn't classify them. I'd just change the subject.

The ironic thing about considering people who are mixed black and white as black is that this idea first surfaced by segregationist with what they called the "one drop rule". The idea was that if all people with any black blood at all was considered black, they would be kept on that side of the color line thus keeping the white race pure. If I were mixed I would say mixed. I wouldn't let a major component of the Jim Crow laws define who I am.

Actually it's the other way round.

We all probably came from the same woman in Africa. As we migrated north some of us mutated white skin.

YUP! You read it here on TFS.....

White people are mutants.
