Why does our government feel it is ok to stick their noses into the spending/eating habits of the working citizens and free enterprise ?

I think it's fine. That fast food restaurants are more than happy to swoop in with their garbage and make poor sick people even sicker. Anyway, the law basically creates financial incentives for healthier restaurants to go their instead, like Subway.

Who 'forces' these "poor sick people " to eat the amounts of "garbage" at these 'fast food restaurants '?

There was an interesting show on tv the other night about take away places. subway came off as one of the worst, one of their 6" sandwiches had as much salt as 12 packets of salted potato chips/crisps..quite scary really.

I actualy think it's common sense to cut back on the amount of takeaways in all areas where their is an obesity problem. People will still have a choice whether they go to macdonalds but would also get a choice of something better too. I seem to remember watching something else on tv about that area of LA where they were saying there just aren't any supermarkets localy. I think Tesco are planning on building a store there (may have done already)

According to the article I read, the primary reasons for people buying food at specific restaurants was physical proximity, and price. The county is trying to get healthier options within the same proximity as the other less healthy places. They haven't banned restaurants currently in place, and they already have a higher percentage of McDonald's restaurants than other areas of LA, so they're hardly being deprived of McDonald's if that's your concern. They are however, being deprived of healthier options. Doesn't that concern you?

You are absolutely right that they won't be deprived of the fast food outlets thats already there, regardless of what ever healthier outlets come in. If a person has already shown a disregard for their health by becoming over wieght how is this going to a difference ?
What concrens me is 'why the government thinks it has the 'right' or authority ' poke it's nose into the spending/eating habits of large or small people. This whole article just seems to much like a 'smoke screen and makes me wonder what the real agenda is behind this .
