It seems to be a case of what your prepared to do to get publicity in the music world now-a-days, and how far your willing to go when you've a new album/single to sell.

Ive noticed when people talk or review an artists new single, they very rarely even talk about the actual song, its usually all about the controversial or soft porn video or what the artist did whilst performing at some awards show.

It would seem that chart music has very little to do with actual music.

Actually, there's plenty of good music being made today. (Some that I love, some of you may hate. So I won't mention those)

Enya still makes music. She's legendary. Same with Celtic Woman

Owl City, Maroon 5, Miranda Lambert, Black Eyed Peas, Fall Out Boy, Jimmy Buffett, Enanescence, Within Temptation, Skillet, Flyleaf, Adam Lambert, Carrie Underwood, Shania Twain, Faith Hill, Martina McBride...The list goes on!

Also, can someone please explain to me why everyone hates Skrillex? In all honesty, I don't get the issue here...

From my understanding, the sound is offensive to the ears.

I mean...the Emergency Public Broadcast tone is just an E flat above high C but a great deal of people hate it. It hurts to listen to. So does the sound of a fax machine answering the phone.

I am so sick of hearing those damn synthesizers, and every chorus being put on repeat, till it sounds like the artist has a severe stuttering problem.
And you know what? It isn't just the pop scene that is going down hill.

I was listening to my local rock station last week. They play everything from Metal, to Alt Rock, to Indie Rock, Grunge, everything. I was listening to some bands that I have liked in the past like Linkinpark, Chevelle, Foo Fihters....and I could barely recognize them. It wasn't rock. It was pop, with
a light delicate riff. Hell, even Country artists go harder on their guitars. And just when I was making sure that I was on the right station, Lourd with her Royals song came on. Then a beat later, Rihanna. Rock and roll is dying, music itself is dying. We need mouth to mouth at this point. Everything just sounds so glossy and artificial, like brightly colored plastic. It is REALLY upsetting me because I am in love with music, and when I try to find music that will prove to me that hey, theres a pulse out there somewhere, I just find new bands trying to sound like the rest of the crap thats being circulated. It isn't fair.

Unfortunately this is the crap that sells nowadays, even the most talentless singer can get in the top 10 now with a bit of autotuning and some sort of sex scandal publicity.

I've noticed that too, as has the media, which noted there were zero rock acts at the recent MTV music awards (the one with Miley Cyrus' controversial performance).

It's normal for those a bit older to harp on current music being crap, but this is a bit different because it's a matter of missing an entire genre for the most part (there are exceptions) here in mainstream music rather than it just sounding different. I'm not talking about a small niche genre, either, but one that had been the backbone of mainstream music for over 50 years. Rock music truly seems to be dead these days.

I understand that because we're such a society built on the "Shock Factor", so artists have to do more to be remembered. But at the price of the music. And I believe part of that is our fault.

They're gonna keep doing whatever has proven to work.
I don't buy any of todays music so its probably everybody else's fault

I don't usually watch those award shows, but that night I caught the VMA's, and you're not. Not one single rock artist was in the building. Not even mainstream rock artists, like the Foo Fighters, or even Fall Out Boy. (they're not really
rock, but they do play their own instruments)
I wonder how long this stand still is going to last.

I'm sure there will be a revival at some point. People can only stand pop cheese for so long.
