how can i make my own html webpage-ish thing

i wanna know how to use notepad or whatever it is to script html so i can practise some stuff
i dont have word i do however have openoffice
i will gladly download any free software which will make this possible, i have tried saving a notepad document in html but all it will let me save it in is .txt

has anyone a clue what i am meant to do
i dont really care to get this published to the internet i know how to do that already
i used to have microsoft frontpage

Just use notepad, and save it as whateveryouwanttocallit.html

do i just have to put the .html on the end and save it at the txt file ok i'll try that

No, you have to edit the save type, and then add .html

well notepad is ok but i use notepad++ and i used page resource and save it as .htm
